Alan Dunham didn’t realize his snowmobile was running low on gas until it stopped.
According to information released by the State Police, Dunham, 59, of Broadalbin spent the small hours of Friday morning enjoying several alcoholic beverages and riding around the Great Sacandaga lake on a snowmobile. Right out in the middle of the lake, his machine ran out of gas.
Later on that morning, a trooper noticed Dunham sitting in a parked truck near the Edinburg Marina, bleeding from the head.
A short investigation revealed the truck wasn’t Dunham’s. He just found the thing unlocked and climbed in for shelter.
Asked to explain the blood on his forehead, Dunham told the trooper that he had fallen a couple of times while walking in from the lake.
Dunham refused to perform field sobriety tests, admitting that he knew that he was drunk.
Dunham was later arrested and charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Town of Edinburg Court on April 21.
