A contractor accidently cut a main phone line Friday, resulting in a landline outage for 4,000 Frontier Communications customers, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department.

The outages affected customers in Corinth, Hadley and Lake Luzerne areas with the 696 or 654 exchanges.

Cellular service was not affected. The outage was expected to last until roughly midnight, the Sheriff's Department said.

Residents unable to contact emergency services were instructed to go to either the Corinth or Luzerne Hadley fire stations, where crews were on standby. The Sheriff's Department increased the number of patrol officers in the area
