Schenectady City Court Judge Matt Sypniewski announced his candidacy for the County Court bench Sunday.
Surrounded by family and local politicians and endorsed by the county Democratic Party, he made his official campaign announcement on the steps of the courthouse where he hopes to serve. He said presiding over one of the busiest courts in the 3rd Judicial District has prepared him well for the demands he anticipates in County Court.
“I am committed to treating all people fairly and equally, and I have shown I can be trusted as a judge to make the right decisions for our community,” said Sypniewski, a former assistant district attorney for the county.
The Albany Law School graduate has served as City Court judge since 2011. He is vying for the seat that will be vacated at the end of the year by Karen Drago, who is not seeking re-election.
Republicans have endorsed longtime Rotterdam Town Justice Kenneth Litz for the post.
