Garrett Whitley drilled a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a big comeback by Niskayuna Wednesday in a 7-6 Suburban Council win over Shaker.

The Silver Warriors trailed in their season opener, 3-0, 5-2 and 6-3, before rallying.

Ryan Feeney had a two-out single in the Niskayuna ninth and Whitley, who has committed to Wake Forest, followed with his second base hit. Tommy Sparato and Tyler Hanft had RBI doubles for the Silver Warriors, with Hanft getting his in a two-run seventh.

Sean Egan hit a three-run homer for Shaker, Ben Cassillo had a home run and a single, and Dom DeMarco added two singles.

Joey Butler pitched three-hit ball over six innings, and Danny Maynard launched a two-run homer as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Ballston Spa, 5-0, to open its Suburban Council schedule.

Cody Mooney had a triple, single and an RBI for the Spartans, and Danny Purtell drove in a pair of runs. Grent Touhey doubled for the Scotties.

Kyrek Osterhout belted a two-run home run to back Ben Contento as Colonie nipped Guilderland, 3-2, in the Suburban Council opener for both teams.

Contento gave up five hits and struck out 11. Zach Formica doubled for Guilderland.

Austin Lawrence had a double among three hits, and James Walters went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Columbia’s 8-7, nine-inning win at Mohonasen.

Mike Fusco had two hits and scored two runs for Mohonasen.

Tyler McAlone’s RBI single in the last of the sixth gave Shenendehowa a 6-5 win over Saratoga Springs.

Josh Hayner had two hits and an RBI for the Plainsmen. Jack Herman had two hits and an RBI for the Blue Streaks

Marty McCollum went 3-for-4 with two doubles and threee runs scored, and Dan Zeglen and Mike Borbee joined on a two-hitter as Scotia-Glenville beat South Glens Falls, 11-1, in its Foothills Council debut.

Luke Mancini and Brett Sarnowski both had two hits and two RBI for the Tartans.

Rhein Zeronda hit an RBI double, and Tyler Guido hit an RBI single as Mekeel Christian Academy beat Duanesburg, 3-2, in the Western Athletic Conference.

Duanesburg pitcher Gabe Gentile struck out 17, and Justin Epstein had a double, single and an RBI.

Max Conti homered, fellow freshman Sam Uline had two doubles and two RBI, and Tyler Hartman knocked in three runs to propel Galway over Berne-Knox-Westerlo, 17-7.

Maclin Norray had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Robbie Varvaro gave up two hits and fanned eight over five shutout innings, and Zach Baldwin hit an RBI double to lift Stillwater over Cambridge, 3-0, in the Wasaren League.

John Rooney hurled four shutout innings and hit an RBI single, and Conway Gillespie had a double, single and two RBI in Hoosic Valley’s 9-4 win against Tamarac.

Will Brooking allowed five hits, struck out 20 — one shy of his school record — and went 4-for-4 with a double in Rensselaer’s 28-3 Central Hudson Valley League win over Waterford-Halfmoon.

Steve Harwood went 4-for-7 with a homer, double and six RBI for the Rams, and Tyler Oliver went 5-for-6 with a triple, double and six RBI. Ryan Baranski and Kyle Hotaling hit RBI singles for the Fordians.

Noah Cipperly hit a three-run home run, and Connor McDonough had two hits, two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases to carry Lansingburgh past Cohoes, 11-7, in the Colonial Council.

Nate Popiel went 3-for-4, Nico Dumas had two hits and an RBI, and Noah Harpe went the distance as Mechanicville topped Ichabod Crane, 7-5.

Nick Chiseri struck out 14, Mike Hennessey doubled twice and scored three times, and Howie Guerrete hit a two-run double in the first to kick-start Voorheesville in an 11-2 win over Watervliet.

Zach Sierra had a two-run double for the Cannoneers.
