The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is warning merchants to be on the lookout for counterfeit $20 bills, after nearly three dozen were used in Clifton Park last weekend.
Deputies said a man purchased electronics equipment at the K-Mart store in Clifton Park on Saturday using 34 fake $20 bills.
All the bills had the same serial number.
“All area businesses should be on alert, as the money appears authentic,” deputies said in a news release.
They said further investigation showed the cash originated in the New York City metropolitan area, and bills with the same serial number were used several times in the downstate area, northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Anyone encountering fake bills should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 885-6761.
