MVP Health Care is expanding its provider network to include 130 physicians from Healthfirst Inc., Vermont’s largest independent physicians association.

The Schenectady-based health insurer already serves members in Vermont. As part of the arrangement, MVP and Healthfirst will collaborate on developing and testing new approaches to high-quality affordable care and have agreed to certain provider incentives that reward cost savings and value-based care.

“Healthfirst is an ideal partner to join our effort to take quality measurement to the next level,” said Dr. Allen J. Hinkle, executive vice president and chief medical officer of MVP, in a news release. “The Healthfirst network is comprised of independent medical practices that have been at the forefront of innovations that are changing the health system for the better, such as adopting electronic health records and creating medical homes for patients. These are physicians who take pride in delivering the right care in the right place at the right time, which leads to healthier communities and a reduced cost of care. MVP’s members will benefit from having access to this excellent association of care professionals.”

Healthfirst was formed in 2010. It will expand patient services and have extended office hours as a result of the new agreement.
