If you're going to swipe a car, you better know how to start it.
City police said a pair of local men trying to nab a 2005 Saab from a small parking lot near Clancy's Tavern were thwarted after they couldn't figure out the vehicle's ignition. Michael A. Gunderson, 32, of Catskill, and Kevin D. Gailor, 27, of Saratoga Springs, were both charged with felony attempted grand larceny following the botched heist early Tuesday evening; Gailor was also charged with possession of marijuana and petit larceny.
Investigators said the two men grabbed the keys to the Saab from Clancy's and then attempted to take it from where it was parked in a small lot on the corner of Caroline and Henry streets.Someone passing by, who knew the owner of the Saab, noticed the two struggling to start the vehicle and alerted the owner, who then called police.
Gailor and Gunderson were arrested a short time later. Investigators said they were unable to get the vehicle started despite numerous attempts because "they were not familiar" with the type of automobile.
