The Schenectady High School marching band director has been placed on administrative leave for reasons that have not been announced.
Joel Servant, band leader and music teacher at Schenectady High School, was sent home for an indefinite period, beginning on Feb. 28.
He continues to be paid while on leave, according to the school district.
District officials declined to say why Servant was placed on leave.
Despite the leave, he performed early this month with other music teachers at the First Unitarian Society of Schenectady for a benefit concert, with proceeds going to Mohonasen and the Schenectady Band Booster Organization.
Before he was placed on leave, Servant played a critical role in the district’s music program. He taught the wind ensemble, concert band, jazz ensemble, and marching band as well as teaching brass, woodwind and percussion lessons.
