Two Schenectady residents were killed Friday afternoon when the car they were in slammed into a tree

Two Schenectady residents were killed Friday afternoon when the car they were in slammed into a tree at a high rate of speed, state police said.

Killed were 30-year-old Mervyn Albert and his mother, 56-year-old Angeli Persaud.

The accident happened on Burgoyne Road in the town of Saratoga. State police identified Albert as the driver. They said he was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Burgoyne when he lost control of the car and the vehicle left the north shoulder, became airborne and struck a large tree.

Both Albert and his mother were pronounced dead at the scene by Saratoga County Coroner Thomas Salvadore.

Schuyler Hose Company and General Schuyler Emergency Squad assisted at the scene.
