Software company CommerceHub has launched a $10,000 scholarship program for college students in the Capital Region who possess the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur.
CommerceHub, based in Albany at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, is looking to award two students with $5,000 scholarships and paid internships.
The scholarships will be given to students who submit a creative video — yes, it can be shot on an iPhone — that demonstrates “out-of-the-box thinking” along with leadership and passion.
According to CommerceHub’s website, the company is looking for a video to feature “how you possess the traits of an entrepreneur by sharing your experiences, ideas, aspirations and why you could be next.”
CommerceHub, founded in 1997 by CEO Frank Poore, provides a cloud-based platform for retailers, such as Best Buy and Walmart, to list products online and ship them to customers directly from the manufacturer. The company works with more than 40 retailers and reached $7 billion in online sales last year.
The scholarships are available for juniors, seniors and graduate students in any major or field of study — and GPA is not a deciding factor. Applications are due by May 16 and the winners will be announced on May 30.
