Part of state Route 67 was closed for about four hours Friday after a manure truck lost its axle and the axle hit another vehicle, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.

A 1998 Mack tanker hauling liquid manure east on Route 67 near Peaceable Street lost its rear axle around 10:56 a.m., deputies said. The axle and dual wheel assembly struck a westbound vehicle being operated by Murray K. McComas, 77, of Russell, Pa.

McComas and his wife, 71-year-old Marie McComas, were taken by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital with minor injuries, but deputies said their vehicle was destroyed.

The eastbound lanes were closed for four hours, until the tanker could be removed. The truck driver, Stephen R. Fulk, 21, of Route 29, Galway, was issued numerous tickets for having an overweight vehicle and equipment and license violations, deputies said.
