Registered sex offenders could soon be prohibited from working as bus drivers in New York.
The Senate on Monday passed legislation that would prohibit registered sex offenders from driving a school or passenger bus.
Under the bill sponsored Sen. Carl Marcellino, the Department of Motor Vehicles would be barred from issuing or renewing a commercial driver's license to operate a bus to people who are required to register as a sex offender.
The Long Island Republican says bus operators are in contact with vulnerable people daily, which he says is dangerous and licensing them makes no sense.
The bill has been sent to the Assembly.
