Lane closures on Route 85 in Albany — also known as the Slingerlands Bypass — will begin today and last into next month.
The closures are necessary for repairs on the bearings and concrete piers of the bridge carrying Western Avenue (Route 20) over the bypass.
One lane in each direction on Route 85 will be closed around the clock. The repair work is slated to finish some time around June 13.
For traffic heading north toward Interstate 90, the lane closure will begin near the Cortland Street exit for Western Avenue. For traffic heading south toward Slingerlands, the lane closure will begin near the on-ramp coming down from the state campus access road.
According to the state Department of Transportation, an average of more than 38,500 motor vehicles pass through the construction zone daily. For up-to-date travel information, call 511 or visit www.511NY.org.
