A Schenectady woman is a finalist in the 16th Annual Mother of the Year Contest being held in conjunction with the 66th Annual Tulip Festival in Albany.
The winner will be named Sunday.
Patricia Dowse of Schenectady, nominated by her nephew Thomas Owens, is one of the five finalists.
The other finalists are Marsha Anderson of Wynantskill, Nancy Kahn of Hudson, Laurel McAdoo of Selkirk and Fazana Saleem-Ismail of Guilderland.
More than 50 mothers from around the Capital Region were nominated this year. In a noon ceremony, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and the Tulip Queen and her Court will greet the finalists on the Lakehouse stage in Washington Park, where the winner will be crowned.
“It is a privilege this Mother’s Day to recognize five outstanding moms and crown one of them as Mother of the Year,” Sheehan said in a statement, “Being a mom is both incredibly challenging and wonderfully rewarding. The mothers we honor today have demonstrated to their family, friends and community a remarkable commitment to their role as a mom.”
