A car accident early Sunday morning led to police having to break up a fight and one officer being hurt in the process, authorities said.
The incident happened just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Crane Street and Third Avenue. The accident resulted in a large crowd forming and a fight breaking out, according to papers filed in court.
Officers responding to break up the fight then were surrounded by the group and attacked, according to papers.
Efrain J. Beniquez, 22, of Paige Street, allegedly broke Officer Andrew MacDonald’s hand, according to papers. Beniquez faces one count of second-degree assault, a felony, along with misdemeanor counts of obstructing governmental administration, inciting to riot, third-degree menacing and resisting arrest.
Also arrested were James J. Baez, 22, and Christian Baez, 23, both of Second Avenue, on one count each of inciting to riot, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. James Baez also faces a misdemeanor count of third-degree menacing.
