Izaiah Brown won three individual events and ran on one winning relay to lead the Amsterdam boys to

Izaiah Brown won three individual events and ran on one winning relay to lead the Amsterdam boys to the team title Saturday at the Johnstown Invitational.

Brown won the 100, 400 and high jump. He was also part of the 400 relay. Bryan Stanavich won the 200 and ran on the winning 400 and 1,600 relays.

David Graveley (400, 1,600 relay) also was a double winner for the Rams.

Saratoga Springs easily won the girls’ title.

Oliva Ventra won the 100 and 200, and was on the winning 400 relay team.

Estela Smith won the 1,500 and ran on the first-place 3,200 relay squad. Ellery Bianco added wins in both hurdles, and ran a leg on the 400 relay.

Sophomore Grayce French won both weight events, and Middleburgh’s Amanda Roney won the high and long jumps.

Baseball

schoharie rallies

Freshman Noah Valvo’s RBI single capped a three-run, two-out seventh-inning rally that gave Schoharie a 4-3 victory over Mekeel Christian Academy in a Western Athletic Conference game.

Rich Martino got the rally started with a single. Steve Brooks singled, and Connor Brown was walked intentionally to load the bases.

Devin Brooks came up with an RBI single, and the tying run scored on an error on the same play.

Valvo’s base hit ended the game and gave the Indians their sixth win in 10 league games.

Rhein Zaronda had two hits and two RBI for the 6-6 Lions.

Dom Toma hit a pair of home runs and a double to back the strong pitching of Nick Bird as Schalmont beat Queensbury, 5-2, in a non-league game.

Bird gave up just six hits in six innings, with Greg Musk pitching the seventh.

Toma hit a two-run home run and a solo homer, Jake Defayette hit an RBI triple, and Kevin Paskevich had two hits and knocked in a run for the 14-1 Sabres.

Shaker also beat Queensbury, taking a 5-3 win under the lights at the North Colonie Boght Complex.

Tyler Hoffman singled and doubled for Shaker, now 11-6. Erik Wattersten hit a two-run double for Foothills Council leader Queensbury, now 13-4.

Dan Burgess threw a five-hitter and struck out five as Albany Academy blanked Bethlehem, 2-0.

Losing pitcher Andrew McCullough gave up only three hits.

Kyle Bailey had three hits, drove in a run and scored twice as Saratoga Central Catholic edged Corinth, 9-8. Jim Brazzell had two singles and an RBI for Spa Catholic (12-1), Jake Moline added a double, single and two RBI.

Zack Shippee had two hits and an RBI for Corinth.

Guilderland senior Morgan Hardt finished with nine goals and one assist, and Guilderland rolled past Colonie, 25-6, in the Suburban Council.

Shannon Mackesey added a nine-point game, getting six goals.

Ann Mahoney’s four goals got Saratoga Springs past Albany Academy, 7-5, in a non-leaguer.

DUANESBURG WINS PAIR

Lia Schettine had four hits in the first game, and Rachel Gamache had three doubles and a pair of singles over both games as Duanesburg won a pair of games at the Lake George tournament.

Schettine’s four singles, and a pair of Gamache doubles, helped Duanesburg (16-2) beat the host team, 8-6.

Gamache stroked two more doubles, and added a single, in a 7-1 victory over Ticonderoga.
