Matt Szurek brought in the winning run with a suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Johnstown a 2-1 victory over Cohoes in the first round of the Section II Class BB tournament Tuesday.

John Heroth had two singles and drove in the other run for the sixth-seeded Sir Bills (12-7), who will take on No. 3 Hudson Thursday.

Cohoes got its only run in the sixth on a triple by Jesse Curtin and an RBI single by AJ Cioffi.

Austin Duffney scattered six hits, struck out six and also ripped a two-run single to help Waterford-Halfmoon defeat Schoharie, 14-1, in a Class C first-round game.

Billy Matin came through with a double, three singles and drove in two runs to highlight the Fordians’ 12-hit attack. Jared Gardner and Anthony Burris also drove in a pair of runs for No. 8 Waterford, which plays top seed Rensselaer Thursday.

Richie Martino had a triple, and scored on Steve Brooks’ single for Schoharie’s only run.

Galway scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to turn back Greenwich, 5-4. Nate Schrader walked, stole second and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch for the Eagles, who only had two hits.

John Barnes homered in the first inning for Greenwich.

Logan Akins had a double and two RBI to lead Glens Falls to 4-2 non-league victory over Corinth. The Indians open sectional play against Lansingburgh on Thursday.

Anthony Villano and Blake Basmajian each had two singles for Corinth.
