An 18-year-old Clifton Park man was arrested Tuesday on charges including possession of a weapon on school grounds, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department said.
Jerald L. Bowden of Solomon Avenue, a Shenendehowa student, was arrested after deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity about 2 p.m. Tuesday at London Square Apartments.
He was found at the scene in possession of a .22-caliber pistol and ammunition. Deputies said their investigation revealed Bowden had just stolen a safe that contained the pistol and ammunition, and that just before his apprehension he had walked onto the Shenendehowa Central School District grounds where they abut the apartment complex while carrying the weapon. Deputies said no students were threatened or endangered.
Bowden was arraigned before Clifton Park Town Justice James Hughes and jailed in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
The owner of the pistol, Keith R. Lints, 57, of Solomon Avenue, was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon, as deputies said he did not have a New York state pistol permit, and the gun was not registered. He was released to appear at a later date in Town Court.
