The deadline for New Yorkers to register to vote in the upcoming June federal primary elections is Friday.
State residents who are not registered to vote can do so on the Department of Motor Vehicles website, MyDMV.org. So far 113,598 voter registrations have been processed online, 33,165 of them from first-time voters, according to the governor’s office.
“Participation in elections is the cornerstone of our democracy, and with online registration tools like MyDMV, the state is making it easier than ever for voters to make their voices heard,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement.
In 2012, New York ranked 47th in the nation in voter registration.
