A man who fled from a Friday morning traffic stop led to three schools being temporarily placed on lock-out, police said.

The man fled on foot near the three schools, police said, but there was no interaction with them.

The series of events that led to the lock-outs began just after 8 a.m. on Troy-Schenectady Road, near Delatour Road.

Police spotted a truck going 76 mph in a 45 mph zone and pulled it over. The driver of the truck stopped, but sped away as the officer approached on foot, police said.

Due to the speed of the truck after it left the stop, police did not pursue. It was last seen heading west on Watervliet Shaker Road.

The truck was next spotted by police on Fiddlers Lane. The truck was going in the opposite direction as the officer, heading toward Route 9. By the time the officer turned around, the truck was gone.

Another spotting came on Route 9 from witnesses shortly afterward.

Then, at 8:42 a.m., police received a call from someone reporting the truck near 71 Old Niskayuna Road. The driver told the witnesses he was out of gas.

Officers found the truck, but the drive was nowhere to be found. Police searched the area with assistance of the Colonie Police K-9 and the state police aviation unit. Police concluded the driver had fled the area prior to them arriving.

The investigation is continuing. The driver was expected to face multiple vehicle and traffic charges when found.

The area where the truck was found was near three different schools. The schools were notified of the search and placed on lock-out as the search took place.

The schools placed on lock out were St. Gregory’s School, Southgate Elementary and Loudonville Elementary. The lock-out lasted about an hour.
