Authorities say at least 24 people are injured in a five-alarm fire raging early Thursday on Staten

NEW YORK — Authorities in New York City say at least 24 people have been injured in a five-alarm fire on Staten Island.

The New York Fire Department says the figures are still preliminary, but 14 of the injured are firefighters and 10 are civilians.

The department says the injuries range from minor to serious, but none is considered life-threatening.

About 200 firefighters are on the scene battling a blaze that is consuming two residential dwellings.

Crews responded to the fire at about 1 a.m. Thursday.

The Staten Island Advance says a man screaming from a window tossed two small children down to a couple below.

Anthony DiSimone, who caught the boy, says the children were shaken up but seemed OK.

Firefighters eventually got the man out as well.
