State police are investigating a fatal early-morning crash on the Northway that killed a Waterford woman and injured her passenger Sunday.
Investigators said Alexandra F. Parry, 22, was driving south near Exit 11 around 3 a.m. when her vehicle veered sharply to the right suddenly. The vehicle then started an uncontrollable skid off the center median and struck a guide rail, causing it to go airborne and flip several times.
Parry and passenger Jacob Lapan, 23, of Clifton Park, both failed to wear seat belts, troopers said. Parry was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Lapan suffered cuts and a concussion in the crash. He was airlifted to Albany Medical Center hospital, where he was last listed in stable condition.
Investigators are still probing the crash, which closed the southbound lanes of the highway for several hours during the morning Sunday. The Malta Ridge Fire Department, Malta EMS and state Department of Transportation assisted at the crash scene.
