A global vitamin and supplement retailer is opening a location in Glenville’s Target Shopping Center.
General Nutrition Corp. better known as GNC, has signed a lease to occupy 1,425 square feet of space inside a strip mall next to Target. The space still needs to be built out, so the vitamin shop won’t open until sometime this fall, said Thomas Mirandi of RD Management LLC.
RD Management owns the shopping center, which includes relatively new anchors Target and Panera Bread and the nearly 32,000-square-foot strip mall. The strip was subdivided into 10 available spaces less than a year ago, Mirandi said, and is already more than 50 percent leased.
Current tenants include Vision Works, Sleepy’s, Super Nail & Spa, Hair Studio One and Glen Ridge Wine & Spirits, all of which occupy anywhere from 1,450 to 3,800 square feet. The liquor store still needs to secure a license and has yet to open.
GNC sells health and nutrition products, mostly vitamins and supplements, but also sports nutrition, herbal, diet and energy products. It will occupy a space in the middle of the mall next to the nail salon, leaving four spaces available for lease, ranging in size from about 1,700 to 8,300 square feet.
“We’re talking to other tenants about some of the other spaces,” Mirandi said, “so hopefully we’ll have some additional new tenants to announce in the near future. We’ve had a lot of good traction on the property. We’re very pleased with the way the whole project has been progressing. We’ve already got a combination of national, regional and local tenants, so we’re getting interest from a variety of businesses across the board.”
Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle said the new business should help draw more visitors and business to the town center. “We’re excited to have GNC join us in the town center,” he said. “This, along with the new Applebee’s on Route 50, is going to help attract more businesses to town.”
GNC has more than 8,600 locations across the U.S. and in more than 50 countries.
