Celebrate Men’s Health Month with check-up
June is not only Men’s Health Month; it’s Father’s Day on June 15 as well. What a perfect time to take a look at your health and how it affects your family, since your health is a family issue.
This is an important month for men to gain awareness to preventable health problems. Men are encouraged to take part in early-detection screenings for diseases and to take responsibility to safeguard their health.
Men — when is the last time your vehicle had a 25,000-mile check-up? When is the last time you changed the battery in your smoke detector? OK, so maybe someone other than you in your life took care of it. Perhaps you didn’t have the correct tools and had to bring your vehicle to the garage.
However, men need to see a doctor, as well, to get their check-up. There are age-appropriate screenings that could be the “tool” for the quality of life you live. Keeping track of your health is very important to those around you.
If you do not have a health-care provider and do not have insurance, call the Cancer Services Program of Fulton, Montgomery and Schenectady Counties at 841-3726 to see if you are eligible for free screenings.
