The Erie Canal is back open to boaters after heavy rains forced it to close over the weekend.
Due to high waters from a week of rain, the state Canal Corp. closed the Erie Canal system Saturday morning from Lock 7 in Niskayuna to Lock E22 in Sylvan Beach, Oneida County. The Erie Canal between Lock 7 and Lock 15 in Fort Plain reopened Tuesday, according to a notice to mariners from the state Canal Corp.
At this point, the entire canal system is open for navigation, the notice said.
Boaters are advised to use caution, as high water events can lead to debris and off-station buoys. To report an off-station or missing navigation aid, call 461-0942.
