Mark Wik’s bases-clearing double highlighted a four-run fifth inning and carried the Tri-City ValleyCats to a 6-1 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters Thursday in a New York-Penn League game at Centennial Park.
The ValleyCats rebounded from Wednesday’s shutout loss to Vermont to improve to 4-3.
Vermont, also 4-3, used two singles, a walk and a fielder’s choice to take a 1-0 lead in the second before the ValleyCats’ offense came alive in the fifth.
With one out, Nick Tanielu singled, Ravel Santana walked and Ariel Ovando singled to right to load the bases.
After Jamie Ritchie forced Tanielu at the plate, Mott Hyde was hit by a pitch, bringing in Santana, and Wik followed with a double to right.
