City police arrested an off-duty Skidmore College security officer after he allegedly molested and took digital photos of a highly-intoxicated 26-year-old woman at a Lincoln Avenue residence Wednesday.
Robert Gardner, 62, of Saratoga Springs, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse with a physically helpless person and second-degree unlawful surveillance –both felonies. He was arraigned in city court and released on his own recognizance.
Saratoga Springs Police Lt. Robert Jillson said Gardner and the woman were acquaintances and had been drinking together earlier in the day. Around 3:15 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a call from him, asking for help for a woman who was unconscious on the back porch of the residence.
While arriving first responders tended to the woman, investigators began interviewing Gardner about what transpired. They also noticed the woman's clothes appeared disheveled and that Gardner's story didn't seem to add up.
Further investigation revealed Gardner had partially undressed the woman and had sexual contact with her, according to police. He also captured images of the woman with his cell phone camera, police said.
“It shocks the conscience,” Jillson said.
