A man and woman were found dead in their Latham home Thursday morning, with their car running in an enclosed attached garage.

Colonie police do not suspect foul play in the death of John A. Lemena, 77, and Palma T. Nero, 82.

Authorities were contacted by Nero’s co-workers at 11:36 a.m. when she did not report to work. Police responded to 3 Dove Court a short time later, discovered the house locked and could hear a car running in the garage.

“There was a lot of heat coming from the [garage] door,” Colonie police Lt. Robert Winn said.

Firefighters entered the home and found Lemena dead in his bed and Nero just outside the bedroom door. A carbon monoxide detector indicated very high levels of the odorless gas inside the home.

Foul play is not suspected, Winn said. “At this time there is no indication of any trauma to the bodies,” he said. “Nothing in the house appears out of order.”

Autopsies are scheduled for today.
