State police said a New Jersey trucker escaped serious injury after the rig he was driving overturned on an on-ramp at Exit 17 of the Northway.
Investigators said Victor M. Lizaro, 33, was hauling 20 tons of clothing south on Route 9 when he took the ramp onto Interstate 87 too fast. The tractor-trailer failed to negotiate the curve and overturned, rupturing the fuel tank on the driver’s side.
Troopers said a small amount of fuel — about 30 gallons of diesel — was estimated to have leaked toward a drainage ditch.
Spill response crews from the state Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the scene.
Lizaro, who is employed by the Evans Delivery Co. of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., complained of minor injuries and was taken to Glens Falls Hospital to be evaluated. He was ticketed for speed not reasonable and prudent, according to troopers.
