A driver was killed in a fiery one-car crash Wednesday afternoon near Crossgates Mall.
State police said the driver was heading south on Interstate 87 near the mall entrance ramp at about 4 p.m. and tried to change lanes in traffic. The driver then struck a guide rail near the ramp and the vehicle became airborne before landing on the driver's side and coming to rest in the center lane, troopers said.
The vehicle caught on fire from a fuel leak, and local fire departments responded and tried to contain the blaze, troopers said. The driver was killed as a result of the crash.
The driver's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, troopers said. No other people were involved in the accident.
Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the accident and are reconstructing the scene.
