A Schenectady man faces up to three years in state prison after he admitted to bilking an elderly couple out of thousands of dollars in a paving scam.

The Albany County District Attorney office said Michael Fink, 28, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Albany County Court to one count of fourth-degree grand larceny,.

Fink overcharged a couple in Guilderland for paving their driveway. The work was actually worth $2,500, but Fink convinced the couple to hand over more than $14,000 in additional payments, officials said.

The scam was uncovered when an employee of the victims’ bank notified Guilderland police. Police then located and arrested Fink.

He is to be sentenced Sept. 10 to as much as one to three years in state prison. He must also pay restitution.
