A Brunswick man is accused of threatening to kill his wife, assaulting her and fleeing police with her trapped in the car.

State police said Seth Brooks, 40, was charged Monday with second-degree kidnapping and aggravated criminal contempt, both felonies; criminal obstruction of breathing and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors; resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing in a motor vehicle and numerous traffic violations. He also was charged with violating a Rensselaer County Family Court order of protection.

Troopers described the incident:

On Monday, Brooks violated the Family Court order when he dragged his wife out of her Cortland Street home and into his vehicle, threatening to kill her. Brooks drove around with his wife in the vehicle, then stopped in the Troy Plaza parking lot on Hoosick Street, where he started to physically assault her.

When confronted by a good Samaritan, Brooks drove off on alternate Route 7, crossing the Collar City Bridge. The Samaritan called 911, and state troopers were sent to the area. Shortly after, troopers received a frantic 911 call from the victim, who was trapped inside Brooks’ vehicle but was able to provide its location.

Troopers located the vehicle on the Northway, north of Crossgates Mall, and tried to pull Brooks over, but he fled. Troopers safely ended the pursuit on the Northway near Exit 4 and took Brooks into custody.

The woman was treated by Colonie EMS and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
