The accident happened just after 9 a.m. when a car crossed the center line and struck a garbage truck head-on.
The driver of the car, William J. Hannmann of Middleburgh, was trapped for about an hour before he could be freed by members of the Middleburgh Fire Department. He was taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition, police said.
The driver of the Fred’s Sanitation garbage truck, Donald A. Benninger of Cobleskill, was taken by ambulance to Fox Hospital in Oneonta. He was treated and released.
