The 2014 Saratoga County Fair Pageant was held at the fair’s opening day Tuesday; young women and girls wore their best dresses and answered questions for the judges at the competition.
The judges crowned 17-year-old Kelly Phillips as Miss Saratoga County Fair 2014, and the Ballston Spa resident has been attending many fair events since then.
As part of her duty as fair queen, Phillips is acting as an ambassador to the grounds during the week of the fair, handing out awards and appearing at the beginning of the demolition derby. Outside of fair season, she will appear in county parades and public events. At select events, she will also speak publicly on behalf of the fair, which concludes Sunday.
The competition has eight age divisions. The judges, who all have some experience on stage presentation, judge the contestants based on their public speaking, performance and overall stage presence.
The other winners and their divisions: Tessa Lavoy, Baby Miss, 19 months old from Saratoga Springs; Paige Dunham, Tiny Miss, 2 years old from Mechanicville; Rylie Sheldon, Little Miss, 5 years old from Saratoga Springs; Riley Mattison, Sweetheart, 6 years old from Greenfield Center; Madysen Thomas, Princess, 10 years old from Ballston Spa; Katie Manuel, Young Miss, 11 years old from Ballston Lake; and Hailey Curtiss, Honor Queen, 15 years old from Malta.
