City police took a local man into custody on assault charges Sunday after he allegedly slashed a Jefferson Terrace woman with a knife following an argument.
William H. Vanderburg, 39, was charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies .
Police initially responded to the woman’s apartment after receiving a 911 call about 9:50 p.m.. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman with a serious wound to her leg requiring her to be treated at Saratoga Hospital.
Investigators later tracked down Vanderburg, who was at the scene when officers initially arrived. Upon further investigation, they determined he got in a verbal dispute with the woman that became physical, leading him to cut her with the knife, police said.
