GUILDERLAND — The Albany Athletics opened regional play in the AABC North Atlantic Stan Musial Regional Tournament with a pair of victories on Friday.
Ben Paniccia’s sacrifice fly snapped a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth inning and gave the A’s a 4-3 win over the Long Island Gamecocks. Josh Ingham had an RBI single earlier in the sixth.
Tim O’Connor had a double and a single with an RBI for the A’s, while Vince Citro had two singles and three runs.
In their second game, the A’s rolled to a 9-1 triumph over the Waterford Nationals. Cameron Overbaugh had a double and three singles with three RBI and three runs scored.
O’Connor had a double and a single for the A’s (36-11).
In other games, the Bluehawks beat the North Haledon Reds, 2-1, in 10 innings, and then egded the Pelham Mets, 3-2. The Mets downed Waterford, 3-2, and North Haldeon beat Long Island, 3-2.

Mohawks take lead
AMSTERDAM — Alex DeBellis’ infield single scored John Razzino with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Amsterdam Mohawks overcame blowing a four-run lead to beat the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs, 8-7, in Game 1 of the Perfect Game Collegiate League East Division final.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series is tonight in Little Falls.
Thomas Kain had three hits for Amsterdam, which saw a 7-3 lead disappear in the eighth when Mohawk Valley scored four runs. Joe Purritano added two hits and three RBI.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Schenectady Aces overcame a 7-3 fifth-inning deficit to beat the Brunswick (W.Va.) Express, 13-11, and qualify for the quarterfinals of the NABF 22U World Series.
Anthony Denofio had a double and two singles for the Aces, who scored 11 runs over the final four innings. Max Dangerfield added a double and a single, while Dom Bianchi doubled.
The Aces, who finished second in pool play, face the Long Island Astros today.

Davis lifts Colonie
BRISTOL, Conn. — Jimmy Davis had two doubles among his three hits and had an RBI and two runs scored as Colonie held on for a 6-3 victory over Northwest Washington in the opening game for both teams at the Little League World Series Mid-Atlantic Regional at Breen Field.
Davis had an RBI double during Colonie’s two-run first inning. He later scored on Ian Parker’s groundout.
Colonie added three runs in the second. Zane Nelsen scored on an error, and Collin McDonough had an RBI single and later came home on an error.
Northwest Washington scored all of its runs in the third inning.
Colonie starting pitcher Jakob Lemperle struck out seven in four innings. He also hit two doubles.
Colonie returns to action at 5 p.m. Sunday against Toms River (N.J.).

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Brandon Smith had a two-run double in the fourth inning, helping Rotterdam clinch at least a berth in the quarterfinals with a 7-4 victory over Altoona (Pa.) in the Babe Ruth 14U Mid-Atlantic regional.
Ryan Starr had two singles for Rotterdam, which is 3-0 in its five-team pool. It is the only team undefeated in its pool.
Jon Seiter added a double.

NISKAYUNA — Rotterdam lost twice on the opening day of the Babe Ruth 13-15-year-old Mid-Atlantic regional at Blatnick Park.
In its first game, Rotterdam dropped a 2-1 decision to Waretown (N.J.). Justin Heller had an RBI double for Rotterdam.
In the other game, Franklin Township (N.J.) beat Rotterdam, 11-0.
