A woman being dragged to an ATM at knifepoint was rescued Sunday after a police officer heard her screams, East Greenbush police said.
Officer Michael Guadagnino heard the screams while patroling in his car nearby. He drove to 104 Sherwood Ave., where he saw a man pulling at a woman. She was clinging to a handrail on the front steps of the house, while yelling for help, police said.
Guadagnino arrested the man, Robert D. Meseck, 47, on charges of menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and resisting arrest.
Meseck lives at the Sherwood Avenue house, police said.
They said he abused the woman for more than an hour inside his house, threatening her with a knife to get her to withdraw money from an ATM. As soon as he took her outside to drive her to the ATM, she began to scream for help, police said.
Meseck was sent to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
