Woman injured in Broome ATV accident

A Staten Island woman remained in serious condition Monday at Albany Medical Center following a week

A Staten Island woman remained in serious condition Monday at Albany Medical Center following a weekend ATV accident in Bates State Forrest. According to authorities, she was not wearing a helmet.

According to the Schoharie County Sheriff's Department, Lauren Galante, 28, was operating an ATV when the vehicle struck a tree Saturday afternoon. Galante was ejected and struck two more trees.

Schoharie County 911 was contacted at 4:09 p.m. The town of Broome Fire Department, Tri Village Fire Department and Middleburgh volunteer ambulance, along with several other mutual aid agencies, were dispatched to the scene. Galante was transported by State Police helicopter to Albany Med, where she was reported to be in serious condition with numerous injuries, but improving, the Sheriff's Department said Monday.

The accident is being investigated by the Schoharie County Sheriff's Department, forest rangers and DEC investigators.
