A city man faces charges that he choked a woman to the point where she could not breathe on her own, authorities said.
Duvar Ayers, 34, of Campbell Avenue, faces one count of first-degree assault and first-degree strangulation, felonies.
Ayers is accused of choking the woman at his residence just after 7:30 a.m. July 18. The woman suffered swelling to her trachea, which required intubation so she could breathe. She was also hospitalized.
If convicted of the assault count, Ayers faces up to 25 years in state prison.
