A Greenfield man was arrested on a felony robbery charge after allegedly swiping a bag of pills from a woman outside the CVS Pharmacy on Congress Street Monday.
David P. Drennen, 28, was charged with third-degree robbery and criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in City Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
Investigators said a 58-year-old woman exited the CVS with her prescription in a bag when Drennen rode up next to her on a bicycle around 5 p.m. Without saying a word, he allegedly grabbed the bag with the pills and rode out of the parking lot.
Police canvassed the area and eventually found Drennen walking along Beekman Street with no shirt and matching the description of the man who stole the pills. Further investigation revealed he had changed his clothes and was carrying them with him.
A subsequent investigation turned up the bicycle used in the robbery and the pills. Police said no weapon was used, and the woman was not injured.
