D.K. Carey’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Auburn Doubledays a 4-3 New York-Penn League victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats on Friday.
It was the second straight loss for the Stedler Division-leading ’Cats (36-18).
Austin Davidson led off the 10th with a triple to center field against reliever Jordan Mills (1-2). Carey followed with his game-winning hit to center.
The ’Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Bobby Boyd walked and stole second. With one out, Boyd advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on Jamie Ritchie’s groundout. Terrell Joyce followed with his eighth homer of the season.
The Doubledays (25-28) got a run back in their half of the first. Carey singled with two outs and scored when left fielder Joyce committed an error on a ball hit by Jose Marmolejos-Diaz.
Auburn tied it in the third. Willie Medina tripled with one out and scored on Davidson’s groundout.
The Doubledays took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Chris Ripoedre scored on a wild pitch. The ’Cats tied it in the eighth on an RBI single by Ritchie.
Boyd was ejected in the 10th inning after being called out attempting to steal.
The ’Cats begin a six-game series against the McNamara Division-leading Hudson Valley Renegades starting tonight. The first three games will be at Hudson Valley before the series shifts to Troy on Tuesday.
