Outfielder Jason Martin went 3-for-5 and scored two runs in his Tri-City debut, and the Stedler Division-leading ValleyCats snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 New York-Penn League victory over the McNamara Division-leading Hudson Valley Renegades on Sunday at Dutches Stadium.

Martin was promoted from the Houston Astros’ Appalachian League affiliate, the Greeneville Astros, after center fielder Bobby Boyd was sent up to the Quad Cities River Bandits earlier in the day. Martin, the Astros’ eighth-round selection in last year’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, batted .274 with 21 RBI in 42 games with Greeneville.

After striking out in his first at-bat, Martin singled in the third. He led off the sixth with a triple and scored on Jamie Ritchie’s single to give the ’Cats a 1-0 lead.

Martin started the eighth with a single and went to second on a wild pitch. He scored on Ricky Gingras’ double. Gingras came home on a Nick Tanielu single. Juan Santana added an RBI single in the inning.

The Renegades scored twice in the ninth and had the bases loaded with one out. But reliever Jordan Mills got Jace Conrad to pop out and Casey Gillaspie to look at called strike three to end the game.

The teams meet again tonight at 7:05.
