Joe Musgrove gave up just two hits in six innings, and Nick Tanielu cracked a two-run double in the eighth inning Monday night as the Tri-City ValleyCats blanked the Hudson Valley Renegades, 2-0, in a matchup of New York-Penn League division leaders.
Musgrove, Brian Radziewski, Jordan Mills and Ryan Thompson gave up just four hits in dealing the Renegades their second home shutout of the season. Mills got the win, with Thompson picking up his eighth save for the Stedler Division-leading Valley Cats, now 38-19.
Tanielu’s double scored Terrell Joyce and Jamie Ritchie, giving the ValleyCats their second win in the three-game series, and handing the 39-18 McNamara Division leaders just their second home series loss of the season.
The teams will play another three-game set beginning tonight in Troy. Houston outfielder Alex Presley, who has been sidelined since July 7 with an oblique strain, is expected to join Tri-City tonight on rehabilitation assignment.
