A Queens man is facing attempted murder and other charges after an early morning shooting Thursday in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood.

According to city police, Brian A. O’Malley, 35, of Far Rockaway, displayed a silver handgun as he approached a man and woman in the area of Fourth Avenue and Pleasant Street at 12:59 a.m. The victim and O'Malley fought for the gun, which discharged several times, striking the victim once in the hand..

The victim broke free and flagged down a police officer near Crane Street. Officers searched the area and arrested O'Malley after a brief foot chase.

The victim does not know O'Malley, and the motive is uncertain, police said. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

O'Malley is facing charges of second degree attempted murder, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
