Three people were charged with gun and drug possession after a traffic stop Wednesday in Scotia.
Shortly after 10 p.m., officers stopped Mikisha Brown, 22, of Schenectady, for driving 52 mph in a 30 mph zone, heading south on Route 50 in a Chevrolet Cobalt, Scotia police said.
After smelling marijuana coming from the car and seeing it in the back seat, next to Virgilio Smith, 18, of Schenectady, officers found Smith to be in possession of a loaded handgun with its serial number removed, police said. They also found 70 packets of heroin in the car.
Smith, Brown and a front-seat passenger, Daiquan Gaskins, 22, of Brooklyn, were each charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Smith was also charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
They were arraigned in Scotia Village Court and sent to the Schenectady County jail on bail.
