City Corporation Counsel John Polster will be resigning in the near future, according to sources.
As corporation counsel, Polster has been the top attorney to Mayor Gary McCarthy since the mayor took office at the beginning of 2012, overseeing the city’s legal work. The mayor appoints the corporation counsel.
Polster could not be reached for comment late Friday. McCarthy declined comment on his aide’s possible departure, which is not yet official.
Prior to his appointment as corporation counsel, Polster had worked part-time for the city since 2005. He is also a former Schenectady County chief assistant district attorney.
The corporation counsel position carries a $92,000 salary. Deputy Corporation Counsel Carl Falotico is considered a potential successor.
