Mott Hyde’s two-run double snapped a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning Friday, and the Tri-City ValleyCats went on to a 5-2 New York-Penn League victory over the Staten Island Yankees at Richmond County Ballpark.

Derek Fisher doubled off reliever Jordan Foley (0-2) with one out. Foley was replaced by Matt Wotherspoon, and Terrell Joyce greeted him with a single to left field to put runners at the corners. Hyde then delivered his double to left field to score Fisher and Joyce.

The Stedler Division-leading ’Cats (41-20), who have the best record in the league, added a run in the eighth. Jamie Ritchie tripled with two outs and scored on the second passed ball of the game by catcher Luis Torrens.

The ’Cats took a 1-0 lead in the first. Alex Presley, playing in his second game with the ’Cats while on a rehab assignment from the Houston Astros, tripled to start the game. He scored on a Ritchie groundout.

Tri-City made it 2-0 in the second when Ariel Ovando scored on a passed ball.

The Yankees (30-30) tied it in their half of the second. Austin Aune doubled with one out and scored on Torrens’ double. Torrens scored on a two-out single by Renzo Martini.
