Two Gansevoort drivers were arrested early Monday morning after what police said was reckless driving led one car to hit a house on Route 50, injuring a sleeping toddler.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department said Brandon M. Medina, 21, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault and reckless driving. He was also ticketed for alleged marijuana possession. Nicholas J. Gage, 18, was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and reckless driving.

Deputies said both men were northbound on Route 50 at a high rate of speed about 12:16 a.m. Monday when Gage attempted to pass Medina, but lost control and hit Medina’s vehicle.

Medina’s car was sent off the road, where it hit a parked vehicle and a residence before stopping in nearby woods. The residence sustained major damage, deputies said, with a ceiling coming down and striking a sleeping toddler on the head.

Medina and the child were taken to Saratoga Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Gage’s vehicle hit a fence, and he suffered a broken leg, deputies said.
