Wellington demo pushed back

Wellington demo pushed back

The implosion of the former Wellington Hotel Annex in downtown Albany was pushed back from Thursday

The implosion of the former Wellington Hotel Annex in downtown Albany was pushed back from Thursday to Saturday, Columbia Development Cos. announced Tuesday.

The 11-story building’s demolition was rescheduled for Saturday morning because Maryland-based Controlled Demolition, Inc. — a company working on the project — had an opening for that time.

Columbia Development said the new date is ideal because there are less state workers and commuters in the area over the weekend. More details about road closures and parking restrictions are expected in the next several days.

The abandoned high-rise building on Howard Street is slated for implosion to make way for construction of a $66.5 million convention center. The implosion will occur before 10 a.m. Saturday.

Jackson Demolition of Schenectady is the lead demolition team for the project and is working with Controlled Demolition for its expertise on implosions.
