A Rotterdam man was arrested thursday for allegedly stabbing a person in the chest.
Thomas Newell, 29, of Rotterdam, was arrested and charged with assault in the second degree, which is a D felony, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.
The 20-year-old victim stated that Newell stabbed him once in the chest during an altercation. The victim then ran to his vehicle, attempting to flee. Police said Newell smashed out the rear driver's side window as the victim drove off. The victim was able to drive a few blocks before calling the police.
The victim was treated and released from Albany Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.
Newell was arraigned in Rotterdam Town Court and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail without bail.
His next court date is August 25 in front of the Rotterdam Town Court.
